Rooftop of the world, land of the snow lion.

A brief account of Tibet: its origin,  a great military power which carved for itself a huge empire in Central Asia, then renounced the use of arms to practise the teachings of the Buddha and the tragic conseguences that it suffers today as a result of the brutal onslaught of the Communist Chinese forces.

for over 800 years tibet was an indipendant nation, governed by a religion and people that promoted unconditional peace, and spiritual mindfullness. and even to this day, decades after the 1938 takover forced exhile of there spiritual, govermental and temporal leader (his holliness the 14th dalai lama, tenzin gyatso) by the peoples liberation army of china they still continue this harmoniouse tradition and faith as best they can. even in the face of discrimination, repression, turture and even the genocide of theyre verry people.

his holliness, tenzin gyatso (the 14th dalai lama)

seen below, his hollines has stood as a pilar of faith and devotion to his people since the age of three, when he was discovered in a rural farming villiage in tibet, and was ordained as therincarnation of the previouse dalai lama.

he is a model and pilar of unconditional kindness and humanity, and was even awarded the nobel peace prize.

'peace is something we all can agree on"

the dalai lama seen below with pope john paul the 2nd. has met with numerouse world, as well as spiritual leaders. to promote peace and tolerance of all kinds. as well as the cease to the genocide of the tibetan people, by the chinese goverment.

Non-violent protest

protest are a common occurrance in tibet, tens apon thousands of tibetans protest the chinese occupation of tibet, as well as the exhile of the dalai lama, and the genocidal discrimination of tibetans by the peoples liberation amy of china (P.L.A.)

in tibet it is now illegal to fly, carry, or own a tibetan flag.in fact this and even displaying an image of the dalai lama is punishable by jail, torture, or even in amazingly frequent situations death. these protests are met with indiscriminate malice and violence, even though they are for the most part non violent. in recent years tibet's native youths have on occasion resorted to violence in response to the P.L.A's increasingly hostile treatment of native tibetans.

prayer met with violence

this monk pictured below was beaten by a P.L.A. street officer for praying to a picture of the dalai lama. while there are still temples in tibet where tibetans are allowed to pray. they are monitored and kept watch by officers of the P.L.A. in tibet  as well as all of china. prayer of any kind in a religiouse establishment, even in christian churches, is monitored and so forth by the P.L.A.

A true hero

below, jampa tenzin emerges from a burning police station after rescuing some of his fellow monks who were dragged into a back room to be shot by P.L.A. officers durring a riot on october 1st 1987, he was arested and jailed the same day.

Faith met with torture

palden gyatso, a native tibetan monk was inprisoned and tortured for his beliefs. below he sits in fromt aof a table of torture devices that were smuggled out of the prison he was incarcerated in. amongst them are knives, cuffs as well as a minature cattle prod on the far right end, which was used to turture him by being stuck in his mouth then activated. amazingly compared to other tibetans jailed and tortured for theyre beleifs, his experience was one of the less extreme. most of those who are jailed never leave the P.L.A prisons alive.

A hero silenced

the proceeding image below, is of him shortly after his release from prison, being hoisted above the crowd of fallowers and admirers. scarred arm still raised in protest. in march 1988 a few months after his release he was found dead in his bed, with a rope tied around his neck.

innocence met with death

norbu, a 15 year old student at tibet middle school, was murdered by the P.L.A. in a crackdown on a protest in ngaba "tibetan  autonomouse prefecture"
